7 Basics for the Feuerhand Baby Special 276
For more than 125 years Feuerhand Hurricane Lanterns stand for reliable and currentless lighting and, also nowadays, enrich terrace and garden with their unique shine. Easy operation, little maintenance effort and longevity make the Baby Special 276 the ideal outdoor lighting.
For correct handling and optimal care of your Baby Special here are 7 valuable tips at a glance.
1. Provide a suitable home
The Baby Special 276 is only comfortable outdoors. The lantern functions with an open cold blast system and is exclusively intended for use under the open sky. There you look for a spot where it can spread its reliable light. Especially suitable are positions on the balcony, the terrace or in the overgrown green garden, because here the classic amongst hurricane lanterns can fulfil its function as independent light source.
2. Alluring curves
A perfectly beautiful, long lasting flame can be shaped with a simple trick. Before you light the wick for the first time you neatly round the top with scissors. That way, the typical flame forms upon lighting. The wick is already included in the scope of delivery. Burner as well as wick can be ordered as spare parts.
3. Provide for clear light
Above all, for you to give your lantern a long life, you need the right fuel. For that reason, it is important to only fill the hurricane lantern with highly pure petroleum or paraffin oil. Please do not use fragrant or coloured oils to prevent soot development. You can do no wrong with Feuerhand Lamp Oil. Upon initial filling or when using a new wick, wait 20 minutes before lighting the lantern wick. It needs the time to soak with lamp oil.
To enjoy the clear light of your lantern for a long time, glass and chimney need to be cleaned of soot particles and combustion residues on a regular basis. The cleaning process is eased considerably when you remove the glass. For that purpose, you pull up the lifting eye and the glass can yet be tilted to one side and removed carefully. You now have free access to the places you would like to clean.
4. Emergency lighting with endurance
With one full tank your Feuerhand lantern sheds up to 20 hours of intensive light. Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum tank filling level of 300 ml. Use the ring of the top bulge for guidance. Of course, you can also extinguish your hurricane lantern earlier. For that purpose, carefully turn down the wick, but only so far that it sinks into the burner and you can only just see it. Afterwards, you can turn it upwards slightly once again to make sure that the flame is extinct.
5. Pose upright
At best, do not move your lantern any longer as soon as it is filled. Make sure that it always hangs or stands upright. That way, you can be certain that no oil can leak and that the lantern is safely positioned when in use. Also, you thus provide for optimal function and a long lifespan of your lantern.
6. A matter of feeling
With a correctly adjusted wick your lantern sheds an even, clam light when lit. If the light starts to flicker or the flame starts to soot, the wick is adjusted too long, and you need to fine-tune. Via the rotating handle you can adjust the length of the wick. Adjust the wick in such a way that an even flame with a height of about 1.5 to 2 cm forms.
Always stow your Baby Special 276 at a dry place. It is advisable to empty the tank after each use. That way, you prevent your lantern from leaking or the oil from leaving behind an oil film due to temperature variations.
