Which is better, the Grilling Grate or Griddle Plate?
Grilling on a plancha or Griddle Plate is the modern, Mediterranean way of grilling. If you use a flat surface such as a Griddle Plate, you will not receive any grilling pattern. How to clean a (plancha) Griddle Plate?
Cleaning a Griddle Plate is very easy as there is no need for aggressive cleaning agents let alone a steel brush. The Feuerhand Pyron Plate Griddle Plate is seasoned before the first use. This creates the all-important patina that continues to develop with every use. This layer must be retained as it prevents food from sticking to your Griddle Plate. You should therefore avoid cleaning methods that might damage your patina.
It is sufficient to rinse the Griddle Plate with clear water after it has cooled down and remove any residues with a scraper. Please do not use any dishwashing liquid as this would destroy the patina. After cleaning, you should dry your Grilling Plate well, apply some heat-resistant and long-lasting oil and store in a dry place. Detailed information you can also read in the user manual.
How to season a Griddle Plate?
Before the first use the Feuerhand Pyron Plate Griddle Plate must be seasoned. For this purpose, you need a heat-resistant oil. First, light the fire in the Pyron and place the Pyron Plate on its three-armed support frame.
During the first use, the plate will arch. Due to the material, it cannot be predicted if the arching will take place upwards or downwards. If the plate arched upwards please remove the cooking support wearing heat resistant gloves and park on a heat-resistant surface. Turn the entire plate over so that it is arched downwards and carefully reinsert the cooking support. Afterwards, you may season your Pyron Plate.
The Pyron Plate is coated ex works with foodsafe paraffin oil in order to prevent corrosion. However, you must season your Pyron Plate before using it for the first time. Apply a heat-resistant oil, such as linseed oil, rapeseed oil or pumpkin seed oil, to your Griddle Plate so that it creates a layer. Spread the oil over the entire surface, e.g. with a brush. Place the Pyron Plate on your running Pyron. Wait until the oil stops smoking. After some time, your Griddle Plate will darken in places or over a larger area and the typical patina will form. Remove the Griddle Plate from the Pyron and allow the plate to slowly cool. Rinse the Griddle Plate with hot water and carefully remove any residues. Finally, dry the plate thoroughly and re-oil it. Use one of the oils mentioned above.
Repeat the seasoning process two more times: Coat the Pyron Plate with oil, wait until the oil stops smoking, let the plate cool down, wash it with hot water and carefully remove any residue. The Feuerhand Pyron Plate is now ready for use. After each use, simply rinse the plate with hot water or wipe it with a paper towel.
