What is a (Plancha) Grilling Plate?
A Griddle Plate, also known as a griddle, fire plate or plancha, is a flat plate with a round opening in the middle. The food fried on the smooth surface is heated from underneath by a heat source.
The Pyron Plate Griddle Plate by Feuerhand is designed for the Pyron Fire Barrel. The blazing fire in the Fire Barrel heats up the plate to extremely high temperatures from below. Due to the size of the Griddle Plate and varying exposure to heat there are also different heat zones. The further you place your food near the central Cooking Device, the higher the temperatures. It thus offers many possibilities, from searing close to the centre to reheating on the outer edge. With the Made-in-Germany Pyron Plate Griddle Plate you can enjoy a special kind of barbecue experience that is already very popular in Spain and France.
What kind of oil is recommended for the (plancha) Griddle Plate?
To successfully grill on your plancha, you need the right oil. If you like healthy cooking and roasting, the Pyron Plate Grilling Plate provides all the options. When it comes to oil, however, you should avoid olive oil or other types of oil with a low smoke point that cannot withstand high temperatures.
Your fire plate becomes very hot, so oils with a high smoke point that can be heated strongly are ideal. As healthy as some oils may be, only highly heatable oils and fats such as sunflower oil, soybean oil or groundnut oil belong on the Griddle Plate.

How to clean a (plancha) Griddle Plate?
Cleaning a Griddle Plate is very easy as there is no need for aggressive cleaning agents let alone a steel brush. The Feuerhand Pyron Plate Griddle Plate is seasoned before the first use. This creates the all-important patina that continues to develop with every use. This layer must be retained as it prevents food from sticking to your Griddle Plate. You should therefore avoid cleaning methods that might damage your patina.
It is sufficient to rinse the Griddle Plate with clear water after it has cooled down and remove any residues with a scraper. Please do not use any dishwashing liquid as this would destroy the patina. After cleaning, you should dry your Grilling Plate well, apply some heat-resistant and long-lasting oil and store in a dry place. Detailed information you can also read in the user manual.
How to season a Griddle Plate?
Before the first use the Feuerhand Pyron Plate Griddle Plate must be seasoned. For this purpose, you need a heat-resistant oil, some fine-grained salt and raw, sliced potatoes. First, light the fire in the Pyron and place the Pyron Plate on its three-armed support frame.
When first heated, the plate bulges. Due to the material, it is not predictable whether it will bulge upwards or downwards. Therefore, heat your plate and observe in which direction it bulges. If it bulges downwards, you can continue with the seasoning process. If it bulges upwards, remove the Cooking Device with fireproof gloves, place it on a heat-resistant surface and turn the plate completely around so that the bulge faces downwards. Now you can carefully reinstall Cooking Device and start the seasoning process.
Pour high-heat cooking oil (such as sunflower oil) onto the plate until it is completely covered. Spread some salt on top to keep the oil on the surface and place raw potatoes (with or without skin) all over the Grilling Plate. Roast the potatoes by turning them several times, until they are a dark brown.
While doing so, the Grilling Plate will turn dark at places and the typical patina forms. Now remove the oil, potato slices and salt with a scraper and leave the Griddle Plate to cool. Once the plate has cooled down, it can be rinsed with hot, clear water and dried thoroughly. As a final step, the plate should be greased with a heat-resistant and long-lasting oil. The plate is now ready for the first use. Information on seasoning can also be read in the user manual.
